The Thankful Tree

If you’re looking to add a new annual tradition to your holiday season, or just want to help your kids express what they’re thankful for this year, here’s are two quick and easy craft projects that you can do with your kids this Thanksgiving.
The Thankful Tree
Table Top Tree
Materials
Flower pot
Fine sand
Thin, bare tree branch
Sheets of craft foam (orange, yellow, red)
Safety scissors
Thin Sharpie marker
Hole punch
String or fishing line
- Fill the flower pot with sand
- Set the tree branch firmly in the sand.
- Cut leaf shapes out of craft sheets.
- Have your family write or draw a picture of what they are thankful for on each hand print or leaf.
- Punch a small hole in each leaf.
- Using string or fishing line, attach each leaf to the “tree”.
- Place the Thankful Tree on your dinner table or buffet and use it to count your blessings on Thanksgiving Day.
Wall Mount Tree
Materials
Construction paper (orange, yellow, red, brown)
Crayons
Glue stick
Safety scissors
- Trace your family’s hand prints onto orange, yellow, or red construction paper. Alternatively, you can cut out leaf shapes.
- Have your family write or draw a picture of what they are thankful for on each hand print or leaf.
- Using brown construction paper, cut out a tree trunk & branches.
- Using the glue stick, have your kids paste the hand prints onto the tree for the leaves.
- Hang it up in the kitchen as a reminder of what you and your family are thankful for this joyous season.
