The Sky’s the Limit

Air Force Thunderbirds

Our family is fascinated with anything to do with flight.  I think this might be influenced by the fact that both my family and my husband’s are interested in aviation.  In our families you will find pilots, airline mechanics, civil air patrol members, air force load masters, aircraft carrier flight directors and a genuine interest in anything that flies.  Growing up, we went to airshows, and our basements were stocked with paint bottles, glue tubes and engines for rockets and remote controlled airplanes.  Turns out our kids share this passion for the skies and we’re having fun continuing to learn about it with them.

Since November is Aviation History Month, we thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite kid-friendly aviation museums we’ve visited around the country.  Since some of these museums are quite large, we’ve included our kids’ favorite parts of the museums.  Now remember, our kiddos aren’t that old yet so we haven’t had a chance to visit enough for a top ten list!  If your family has a favorite museum, please share it with us!

So how did the Five Hens kick off our Wild Week?  The Hens, Roosters and their chicks had a Wild Day of our own courtesy of The Wildlife Experience in Parker, Colorado.  The Wildlife Experience is an interactive museum that connects the community with wildlife and habitats to teach them how they can have a positive effect on the environment.   If your family is interested in learning about animals and their habitats around the world, this museum is for you!

“Do Good” Challenge: Volunteer at a Museum

Volunteer at a museum today

In honor of the Smithsonian giving away a free day at their museums, maybe there’s something we can all do to repay our local museums.  Museum funding, especially for smaller museums, is really difficult. Even the major established institutions, unless they are well-endowed, are having a hard time figuring out how they are going to continue their operations.  Some museums are being forced to make the hard decision between shutting down for good or selling off portions of their collections to private collectors.  That means, we, the public lose access to timeless art, culture, and knowledge.

Family Field Trip: Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Denver Museum of Nature and Science
If your family is ever in Denver, Colorado and you are looking for a fun and educational way to spend the day, then head over to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Our family recently made a trip to the museum to check out Expedition Health, the newest exhibit that opened last spring, plus return to some of our favorites such as Space Odyssey, Prehistoric Journey, Gems and Minerals and Egyptian Mummies. We also took in a showing of Sea Monsters, their newest IMAX movie. We had a great time and you can too!
