Win a Kids Conserve Goodie Bag
Christy Aune of Kids Konserve gave us some great tips this week on having an “Eek-o-Friendly Halloween” which included using some products from Kids Konserve. She was also kind enough to provide a Kids Konserve Goodie Bag to help you get off to a great start on an environmentally sound Halloween. The Goodie Bag includes a recycled canvas lunch sack and a 20 oz. stainless steel water bottle (combined value $21). Now that’s a great way to start doing what you can to make Halloween fun and Eek-o-Friendly!
And the winner is…

My favorite tip was to walk instead of drive when trick or treating. Many people should consider doing this instead of wasting gas driving their car. The exercise from walking would help work off all the candy LOL

My favorite tip is making costumes out of fabrics I know to be safe. I’m very big into making my own things out of stuff I already have. I make my kids costumes every year just like my mother did for me!

main entry: I like the Consider your costumes. tip best. because many costumes have toxic chemicals in them its best to use your imagination to create your own. many clothes you have outgrown or that are torn can be used simply by adding feathers etc to turn it into a great costume.

My fave-Don’t drive to trick or treat. Encourage your neighbors to go green and then go door-to-door near you. It’s good for you and the planet and builds community. I’m the treat hand-outer at my house and I am amazed how many kids are driven around, not in groups mind you, just one kid and one parent. I have a hard time imagining a worse Halloween.

Tip I liked- Consider your costumes. The truth is, many store-bought costumes and accessories contain toxic chemicals that not only are a potential hazard to your child, but also to the environment and the people who helped to make them. jelly15301@gmail.com

I loved the walking instead of driving tip. If you’re going out for candy, you should expend a few calories first. Maybe it would discourage going too far for trick or treating.

Hi. My favorite tip was to have your children trick or treat in your own neighborhood. We usually find, where we live, that after 6 blocks the kids have enough of Halloween sugar to last 6 months. It’s just keeping after them to brush their teeth after a sugary treat that’s the pain. Cheers and happy halloweening. polo-puppy-fluffy AT hotmail *dot*com

I like the idea of saying no to disposable decorations and using stuff you have around the house, being creative and making things that are fun. My idea: an old sheet over a coat hanger hung from a tree can make a great ghost.

Good idea: Don’t drive to trick or treat. Encourage your neighbors to go green and then go door-to-door near you. It’s good for you and the planet and builds community.
True that this would build community and encourage everyone on your block to participate in trick or treating, decorating their lawns, and giving out candy. It would be even more fun if several people put on a safe and age appropriate party. Of course, if you live in a neighborhood with stingy folks who don’t like to be bothered on Halloween, then driving a short distance to the next block won’t do a lot of harm

I liked this tip the best: “Trim your trick-or-treats. Hand out less ________ (fill in the blank). Preferably your goodies of choice are healthy and/or Earth-friendly, but even if they’re not, handing out just one (rather than the conventional handful) of something is better for kids, better for the planet and better for your bank account.”
