The Wildlife Experience: More than a Museum
October 22, 2009 Posted by The Painted Hen
So how did the Five Hens kick off our Wild Week? The Hens, Roosters and their chicks had a Wild Day of our own courtesy of The Wildlife Experience in Parker, Colorado. The Wildlife Experience is an interactive museum that connects the community with wildlife and habitats to teach them how they can have a positive effect on the environment. If your family is interested in learning about animals and their habitats around the world, this museum is for you!
Wild Encounters at Your Local Zoo

Yesterday, Barb Spagnuolo gave us lots of good advice on how to get out and enjoy wildlife with your kids. But for some, natural wildlife areas may not provide the accessibility they need to have a wildlife experience. And, lets be honest, not everyone is into getting out on the trail to experience wildlife either. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have meaningful wildlife encounters with your children. There are many great zoos across the globe that offer rich educational experiences as well as the chance to see live animals that you might not ever have the chance to see anywhere else.
National Geographic The 10 Best of Everything Families: An Ultimate Guide for Travelers

My memories of National Geographic start as a small child. The photos were captivating, and throughout school the stories became resources for book reports, speeches or art projects. When I went to college and worked in the library (it was much cooler than you think!), I came across old leather hardbound volumes from the early 1900s (think Teddy Roosevelt hunting Tigers in India). Now, as a dad, one of our favorite travel activities is to get some room service at the end of a fun day and watch National Geographic specials. They love it as much as me, so of course the kids also receive National Geographic Kids.
Family Field Trip: Denver Museum of Nature and Science

If your family is ever in Denver, Colorado and you are looking for a fun and educational way to spend the day, then head over to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Our family recently made a trip to the museum to check out Expedition Health, the newest exhibit that opened last spring, plus return to some of our favorites such as Space Odyssey, Prehistoric Journey, Gems and Minerals and Egyptian Mummies. We also took in a showing of Sea Monsters, their newest IMAX movie. We had a great time and you can too!
