All of The Painted Hen's Posts

The Painted Hen enjoys exploring her creative side, whether making Halloween costumes or watching a beautiful sunset with her Rooster of 12 years. She has two chicks (boys ages 6 and 3) who can always make her laugh with their knock-knock jokes and dance party moves. The Painted Hen was a geologist in an earlier chapter of her life and still has fun camping and hiking with her flock. Turns out she has passed her love of collecting rocks and other treasures on to her chicks – much to the dismay of her laundry machines.Get the RSS feed for all of the Painted Hen's posts here.

The Zula Patrol is Out of this World

A few years ago on a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, we decided to attend a planetarium show.  We were thrilled when we saw they offered one tailored to younger children.  Our boys loved the showing of “The Zula Patrol: Under the Weather“ and my oldest clutched the brochure from the show for the rest of the day, memorizing every bit of information the card contained.  We like to take out our telescope and look at the moon and planets, so a show that helps teach science literacy and astronomy in a fun, entertaining format got our attention.  You can imagine our delight when we found out that The Zula Patrol is an award-winning series featured on several networks (PBS, NBC, ION, Telemundo and Qubo).  We watched a couple of episodes and the show has been a hit with the entire family ever since.  The Zula Patrol continues their adventures in two new DVD’s, Moons Mayhem and Animal Adventures in Space and the Five Hens had the opportunity to review them courtesy of Zula USA, LLC.

Hold on to those old Christmas Cards!

If you’re like me and are a bit slow taking down your Christmas decorations, you still have time to hold on to some of the Christmas cards you received.  Then next year you will be ready to make those cute gift tags that The Little Red Hen shared with us.  Thanks Little Red!

It’s for the Birds

Ahh, my favorite time of the holiday season…the week after Christmas.  The crazy hustle and bustle is over and I love that our family can just hang out in our pajamas all day.  This is when we take time to sit down and play with all of the new toys that arrived under our tree.  By New Year’s the initial shine has toned down and the kids start asking to do crafts and other projects.  Our boys love helping out in the kitchen and every winter we take time to make a special treat for our feathered friends.

Bill VanDerKloot

The BIG Adventure Video Series by Little Mammoth Media is a favorite at our house (see our recent post Choose Your Next BIG Adventure).  William VanDerKloot, a Peabody award-wining director/producer, and producer of the BIG Adventure series was gracious enough to answer a few questions for us on Five Hens.  Find out what the Hens wanted to know about Mr. VanDerKloot and Little Mammoth…

How did you get started making videos for kids?
