Who Are the Five Hens
So who’s in this Hen House anyway? Well, there are five hens who all have a slightly different outlook on life. We have a lot in common with each other and a lot of differences as well. We wanted to cluck a bit about the things that happen in our lives in the hopes that you might find our insights (and rantings) useful…or at least funny! So, you’re probably still asking “Who are the Five Hens?” To help you out, here’s a bit about each of us.
The Flying Hen
The Flying Hen loves a good hen party and knows that we hens need to flock/stick together. She can laugh, cry and cluck with the best of them. It is, after all, free group therapy. The Flying Hen lives in a barnyard with her rooster and 4 chickens (ages 6 to 15). While pretending not to be a lawyer, she produces a cooking show in her kitchen with viewership limited to her chickens. When not “on the air,” she can be found “flying” around town picking up, dropping off, and sometimes forgetting chickens, as well as sneaking in a group fitness class whenever possible. Zumba, not so much. Look for her in the Kick Boxing studio. Her Roundhouse Kick? Forget about it!

The Healthy Hen
The Healthy Hen gravitates towards moderation in life. When she is not running in circles she sometimes runs in a straight line for 26.2 miles, and somewhere in between is where she finds herself now. Sometimes she pushes two chicks in a double jogger in the hills among foxes and rattlesnakes, sometimes the Healthy Hen spins on an elliptical machine while playing episodes of Sesame Street from 1972 and her chicks giggle beside her. She doesn’t really start stirring until she sips her morning brew- a healthy half-caf cup of coffee, or three. The amount depends on how long she gabs with the Rooster before the chicks start peeping – and the running in circles resumes…

The Little Red Hen
Little Red Hen is neither petite nor auburn tressed, but does have a soft spot for baked goods and a fondness for people who pitch in around the house. She’s been married to her rooster for almost 10 years and has a 6 year old pullet and a 3 year old cockerel- but that may be taking this chicken thing too far. Little Red likes to cook (tonight’s menu is meatless meatloaf, if that tells you anything), watch movies with happy endings and spend time with her flock!

The Painted Hen
The Painted Hen enjoys exploring her creative side, whether making Halloween costumes or watching a beautiful sunset with her Rooster of 12 years. She has two chicks (boys ages 6 and 3) who can always make her laugh with their knock-knock jokes and dance party moves. The Painted Hen was a geologist in an earlier chapter of her life and still has fun camping and hiking with her flock. Turns out she has passed her love of collecting rocks and other treasures on to her chicks – much to the dismay of her laundry machines.
The Painted Hen’s Archive rocks..hehe.
The Wanna Have Fun Hen
This hen just wanna have fun! After many years…proudly graduated from Penn State University. Moved to the metro DC area and worked in Human Resources (boy, can people complain). After many years…finally met the perfect Italian man and married him! Moved out west and had two beautiful children (boy 6, girl 3) that she stays at home with (that Human Resource experience is coming in handy now). She is a work in progress…

The Roosters
We thought it might be nice from time time to let our Roosters get a word in edgewise. So, maybe once a week or so, we’ll feature a post from one our five roosters. It might be pretty interesting to get the “other” point of view!
Hang out with the guys in the Hen House and check out their very own Rooster’s Archive.
